Very influential in his time and sired so many foals it is difficult to find anextended pedigree today that does not carry his name. He was a successful showhorse becoming Grand Champion in 1968, but he was also used as a ranch horse onthe Esther ranch. Zane had exceptional rhythm and put that and his grey color on most of his foals. Zane was either loved or hated by those who saw him. What helacked in conformation he made up for in gait and ability. He was a little horsewith a big heart and a strong prepotency. His sire was Sterling Merry Boy and hewas out of the immortal Lady Ann E making him half Tennessee Walking Horse andhalf Saddle horse in breeding.
